Slow Stick Ski's

Many users have reported having great success using the DuBro Parkflyer skis although as detailed in the following post by JimSP some modification is required.

Modifying The Skis

I bought the DuBro Parkflyer skis at my LHS for $7.95. They are a nifty pair of skis but the mounting system requires an axle length longer than what’s on the Slow Stick. You could bend a new landing gear with a longer axle but I decided to modify the skis as shown in the attached photo. All I did was to extend the skis upward with 1/16 ply on both sides of the ski. This allowed me to put the wheel collar centered on the ski rather than on the outside. With this arrangement I had to make a new spring for positioning the ski. I used a thin paper clip and just bent it around the cap screw, around the axle and then bent it at a right angle to go into a hole I had drilled in the side of the ski.

Actually I think I like the modified ski better than the original as it gives me more prop clearance and I think the positioning spring works better than the small one supplied. The supplied wheel collars are for a 1/16” wire but they are easy to drill out to fit the Slow Stick landing gear.

The skis are about 7” long by 2” wide and as modified the pair weighs about 1 oz. I’m making a pair out of foam, which I think will weigh half as much. JimSP.
